When Shina Reynolds was young, she relished riding a horse through a wide-open Nebraskan field, her imagination leading the way. Now that she doesn’t have a horse and lives in a city, she creates flying horses in her mind and writes about them.

She wrote her first two books in her sixth-grade English class, the second of which went on to win an award at the Nebraska Young Author’s Conference. 

 

Shina resides in Texas with her husband and their cat, where she spends the majority of the year trying to stay cool and imagining she lives in Ireland. 

 

Although she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, graduating with honors in art history and with a minor in anthropology, she couldn’t fight the urge to create art herself. Before writing her first novel, she worked in: acting, filmmaking, singing and songwriting, modeling, and photography. Her love for film continues to inspire her writing.

Her debut novel, A Light in the Sky, a young adult fantasy, has won twelve awards to date, including the Gold Medal for Teen Fiction in the 2022 IPBA Benjamin Franklin Awards.

 

When she’s not writing, her other interests include: watching movies and tv series on her and her husband's 'super couch', reading (mostly fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, or non-fiction), filmmaking, exploring the outdoors, swimming, entertaining her mostly cuddly cat, and spending time with her husband.
